PENCIL’S  STORY



RECOMMENDED AGE GROUP:

Level 2 – Upper Primary (years 4, 5 and 6)

CHARACTERS:


Charlotte


Grandad

SYNOPSIS:


Charlotte was a girl who lived with her grandfathers in the town.
One day, her grandad explained to her the four qualities a pencil has and how this object can guide a person to be stronger and happier in her life.


CHARACTER OBJECTIVES:



Charlotte

At the beginning, she does not know what her grandad means when he is talking about the pencil´s qualities.
 Later, she realizes.


Grandad

He is a wise man, who wants to transmit all his knowledge to her granddaughter.



SCENE BREAKDOWN:


Scene 1: TOWN

Charlotte is outside making a snowman. Suddenly she sees through the window that her grandad is going to the living room.
She comes into the house.


Scene 2: LIVING ROOM

She stared at her grandad for a while. She asked him about what he was writing.
He answered her that the pencil he was using to do so it was more important than the words themselves.



Scene 3: LIVING ROOM

He started to explain the qualities of the pencil and how people can follow them to grow up in a better way.
He took a pencil sharpener and pointing to it, he explained the first quality.
Then, he caught a rubber and pointing to it, he explained the second quality.
Later, he showed the pencil to Charlotte while he was pointing to the graphite. In this way he explained the third quality.
Finally, to talk about the last quality, the grandad put his hands on his chest to make a reference to the heart.


The girl was amazed thinking about her grandad’s reflection.


Scene 4: PARK

Forty years later Charlotte is proud of listening to her son telling the pencil’s story to his children. All of them are looking at the pencil with attention.
Now, Charlotte knows that “her grandad’s story” will be transmitted from generation to generation.
